Richard M. Roenn, age 85, of Strongsville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026. He was born on November 12, 1940, in Cleveland, Ohio.
Richard was the beloved husband of Carol Summers (preceded in death), devoted father of Kimberly, and cherished father-in-law of Bruce Devney. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Michael, Stephen (Carolyn), Daniel (Mary), Julia, and Hailey, a role he embraced with joy and purpose.
Richard was preceded in death by his brother Robert and his wife Judy, and is survived by his siblings Roger (preceded in death by Nancy) and Mary Armstrong (Michael). Proud Uncle and Great Uncle to many.
A U.S. Air Force veteran, he served his country honorably as a machinist, stationed in Roswell, New Mexico. Following his military service, he returned home to Cleveland, where he married Carol and began raising their family, welcoming their daughter Kimberly in Brunswick, Ohio.
Richard was a successful business owner of American Metal Treating Company, where he remained deeply proud of his trade, always referring to himself—above all else—as a machinist. His work ethic, attention to detail, and insistence on doing things the right way defined both his professional life and his character.
After retirement, Richard embraced a second and most cherished career as "Pop Pop." He was a constant presence in his grandchildren's lives—always there for school pickups, after-school care, sporting events, and even serving as a trusted driving instructor. His reliability and quiet dedication never wavered.
Richard was an avid reader, a lover of classical music, and found great satisfaction in completing projects carefully and correctly. He also enjoyed traveling. Starting with early trips to fishing camps in Canada with his parents and siblings, continuing with boating adventures on Lake Erie with Carol and with his brothers and nephews on Drummond Island, Richard was an intrepid traveler. Later, with Kim, Bruce, and his grandchildren, he created lasting memories, traveling the world together and visiting favorite destinations such as Bald Head Island and Key West, Florida.
His life was marked by service, craftsmanship, loyalty, and love for family. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to be determined. In remembrance of Richard, donations may be made to Idea Stream Public Media, WCLV.
