Richard Fred Scamorza

1956 - 2026

Richard Fred Scamorza, of Jupiter, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Richard was raised in Iselin, New Jersey, and was the beloved son of the late Vincent and Gladys Scamorza. He carried a deep love for his hometown throughout his life and often shared stories of his childhood and high school years. He attended John F. Kennedy Memorial High School as part of the Class of 1974, where his love for music grew as a member of the marching band. One of his most cherished memories was the trip he took to Ireland with the band, a story he would share often. He later attended the University of South Florida, where he studied accounting.

While he always held close his roots in New Jersey, Richard also loved the life he built in Jupiter, Florida. He enjoyed being outdoors and appreciated the simple, everyday moments that meant the most to him. He loved taking road trips, including time spent at Busbee Mountain in Asheville, North Carolina, and simply getting in the car to enjoy the open road, always valuing the journey as much as the destination.

He shared 47 years of marriage with his wife, JoAnn, his high school sweetheart, building a life centered around love, family, and commitment.

He was a man with an entrepreneurial spirit and big ideas, always thinking and dreaming about what could be. A true do-it-yourself kind of person, Richard found satisfaction in building, fixing, and figuring things out on his own. If something needed to be done, he believed in doing it himself.

Richard worked as a financial advisor, including his time with Janney Montgomery Scott, where he had been since 2007. He loved what he did and cared deeply about his work. Over the past several years, he was supported by his colleagues, including a boss who stood by him through his illness. Their flexibility and understanding allowed him to continue working in the way he wanted, something that meant a great deal to him.

Richard had a gift for storytelling and could spend hours sharing his memories with others. He had an incredible memory and often recalled moments with remarkable detail.

He found joy in the moments that brought people together, especially Thanksgiving, his favorite holiday. He was known for preparing the turkey and making the day special for his family. Whether it was a holiday meal or his Friday fish dinners, he simply enjoyed good food and time spent together.

Even in the face of illness, Richard showed remarkable strength and determination, choosing to live life on his own terms.

Above all, Richard was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn (Scalone) Scamorza; his son, Anthony Scamorza and his wife, Cristina; and his daughter, Lisa Hairabedian. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Anthony, Daniella, Isabella, Vincent, Enzo, and Gianna, who were the light of his life. He spoke of them often, proudly celebrating their accomplishments and cheering them on in everything they did.

He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Sheridan and her husband, Tom, along with his extended family members, all of whom he loved dearly.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Richard will be remembered for his stories, his independence, his strength, and the way he appreciated life’s simple, meaningful moments. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
