Richard Bryant Sengoba (AKA Richard (Alikadi) Ssentamu Ssengoba) lived a life defined by generosity, faith, and a deep commitment to uplifting others. He was known by all who met him as a man with a giving spirit and a warm heart who never met a stranger. Whether through conversation, laughter, or a simple act of kindness, Richard had a way of making people feel welcomed and valued. Richard Bryant Sengoba was born September 16, 1943 in Lubaga Hospital in Kampala Uganda to Anastanzia Namirimo Sengoba and Michael Sengoba.
He was a Catholic Muganda of the Mbogo (Buffalo) Clan. He was the eldest son of Michael Sengoba and one of his 18 children. He is survived by his wife Irene Nankya of Uganda, Sons -Geofrey Ssengoba, Peter Sengoba, Allen Nabwana, Daughters- Anisa Ssengoba-Ubogu ( Eroboghene Ubogu) and Mariam Mpamulungi. His grandchildren Kome Ubogu, Rezi Ubogu, and Ella Brittingham.
He was preceded in death by his parents-Anastanzia Namirimo Sengoba and Michael Sengoba, his Grandfathers- Allen Kaddu Nabwaana and Denizio Kamyuka, Grandmothers- Sarah Nambooze and Veronica Nalubega, Daughter- Angela Maria Nabalende Ssengoba and Son-Muzeyi Bagubye Ssengoba. He was married previously to Dr. Cora Ssengoba and Ruth Kasaada.
A devoted man of faith, Richard’s Catholic beliefs were central to his life. He quietly carried out a personal ministry of giving Catholic rosaries to others, offering them as symbols of hope, prayer, and connection to God. Through these small but meaningful gestures, he touched countless lives and reminded many of the comfort found in faith.
Richard also believed deeply in the power of education. He encouraged learning and personal growth in those around him, understanding that knowledge and opportunity could transform lives and strengthen communities. His commitment to education was another reflection of his desire to see others succeed and thrive. He attended primary school at the prestigious Kisubi Primary School and proceeded to Gayaza High School then Namiryango Senior Secondary School. In 1966 he traveled to the United States to attend the University of Michigan on an academic scholarship. He was very active on campus and was a member of a Ugandan cultural dance troupe. He graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Engineering. A few years later, he completed his Masters of Arts in Economics and Masters of Science in Industrial Technology (CAD/CAM) from Eastern Michigan University.
Richard had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. His laughter was contagious, and his presence brought lightness and warmth wherever he went. Friends and family will remember the stories he told, the jokes he shared, and the genuine joy he found in life and in the people around him.
Above all, he will be remembered for his kindness, his faith, and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched through his generosity, his ministry, and his unwavering belief in the goodness of others.
Richard Bryant Sengoba passed away peacefully at home March 7th, 2026, surrounded by family, after a courageous fight against lung cancer. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
