Richard Foster Sidley, 72, passed away on December 23, 2025, in Lake Villa, Illinois. Born on January 15, 1953, in Richmond, Virginia, Richard lived a life marked by devotion—to his family, his work, and his faith.
A graduate of Case Western Reserve University with a degree in engineering, Richard built a distinguished career as an electrical engineer consultant. He specialized in ride control safety systems at theme parks around the world, helping ensure the safety and enjoyment of countless guests. His work led him across the globe, including two years in Tokyo, Japan, where he contributed to the development and maintenance of attractions at Tokyo Disney.
Richard had a deep love for science and technology and was a lifelong learner. A dedicated do-it-yourself enthusiast, he found great satisfaction in home improvement projects and woodworking—often expanding his well-equipped tool collection. Whether walking the dogs or working in his workshop, he approached each task with care and intention.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Cindy Sidley; his son, Derek Sidley; his daughter, Heather Tunnell; his daughter-in-law, Jean Sidley; and his grandchildren—Nora, Owen, Carter, and Emma—who affectionately called him "Papa." He also leaves behind his brother Ken Sidley; nieces Scarlett and Adriana; nephews Kevin and Troy; and many others whose lives were touched by his presence.
He was preceded in death by his father William "Bill" Sidley; mother Emma Ruth Sidley; and sister Sonja Peach.
Later in life, Richard's faith became a guiding light. His commitment to the Church deepened as he devoted himself to acts of service and spiritual support.
Per Richard's wishes, no funeral services are scheduled at this time.
May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
