Richard M. Stilwell, 77, was a resident of Germantown, Maryland. He fell ill in August while spending time at his summer cottage at Hedges Lake in Cambridge, New York, and passed away in Albany Medical Hospital on October 1st, 2018.
Born January 29th, 1941, in Troy, New York, Richard made lifelong friends with classmates at West Annapolis Elementary and graduated from Annapolis High School.
After serving as an army medic in Okinawa, he graduated from the University of Maryland in 1972.
Richard was an electrical engineer whose career started in 1965 at Penril Engineering. He also worked for a time at Rexson, designing modems, and retired from Hekimian Laboratories.
An engineer by trade and heart, Richard was always ready to help family and friends in need of creative solutions to their practical problems. Richard enjoyed attending classical music concerts and car shows when friends and family visited. He will be remembered for his timely jokes, devotion to his cats, deep love for classic British sports cars, and his annual trombone birthday calls.
Richard was a loving husband to Judy Stilwell, patient father to Heather (Bruce) Boersma & Mary (Greg York) Laymon, generous grandfather to Evelynn (Alyssa) Amundson, Zorya(Veles) Blackwood, Iris (Martin) Tanja, and Ruby June; and brother to Aletha Eyre (Brad Eyre).
Upon his wishes his body was donated to science. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donation to the Albany Fisher House for veterans' families that graciously supported Judy while she visited the hospital during Richard's illness.
