Richard "Rick" Alan Suzuki, 70, of Evansville, passed away on January 9, 2026, just days after celebrating his 70th birthday.
Rick was born on January 5, 1956 in Danville, Illinois, the son of Dr. Tsutomu Tom Suzuki and Margaret Gilbert Suzuki, and was raised in Covington, Indiana. He attended Onarga Military School for several years and later graduated from Covington High School in 1974. He continued his education at Ryder Technical Institute, where he received a diploma in High Performance Gasoline Power Plants. He later attended Universal Technical Institute, completing coursework in automotive mechanics and automotive transmissions.
Rick proudly served his country in the United States Army, attaining the rank of sergeant. During his service, he was deployed to Saudi Arabia in support of Operation Desert Storm. He received several military honors, including the National Defense Service Medal and the Southwest Asia Service Medal. His time in the Army was the accomplishment he held most dear, and he was especially proud of his military service.
Throughout his life, Rick valued discipline, humor, resilience, and self-reliance. He possessed astute mechanical abilities and enjoyed rebuilding and repairing vehicles, taking pride in working with his hands and restoring cars to their full potential. He was known for his witty personality and also really enjoyed cooking — a skill he learned from his father.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Richard Keith Suzuki.
He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Day and her husband, Jason; his two grandsons, Owen and Graham Day; and his siblings: Lynne (John) Inman, Colette (Hal) Gayler, Cynthia (Glen) Brunk, Tom Suzuki, David (America) Suzuki, and Philip (Jane) Suzuki.
Rick will be remembered especially for his military experience and the pride he took in serving his country. He will be laid to rest at Crown Hill National Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana. An internment service will take place on Friday, February 27, at 2:00 p.m., with military honors.
