Richard Allan Thompson was born on December 11, 1951, in Portland, Oregon, to Jack Thompson and Viola White. The youngest of four children, he spent his early years in the Portland area before moving to Gresham, where he lived with the Steele family and graduated from Gresham High School in 1970.
During the summer of his graduation year, Richard met the love of his life, Carol Lundbom. The two married in 1972, beginning a partnership that would span more than five decades. Shortly after their marriage, Richard joined the United States Air Force and was stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho, proudly serving his country for four years.
Following his military service, Richard became a certified welder and fabricator. He later joined the Clackamas County Road Department, where he dedicated 31 years of hard work before retiring. Richard and Carol made their home in Gresham, where they raised their family and remained throughout his life.
Richard passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 3rd. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Carol; his daughters, Emelie Moon of Sandy and Carisa Thompson of Gresham; and a lifetime of memories cherished by all who knew him. A kid at heart yet always a man of his word, Richard will be remembered for his humor, loyalty, and steady presence.
A viewing will be held on April 17th at Gresham Memorial Funeral Home from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
