Richard Wayne Young, affectionately known as "Big Rich," passed away on December 14, 2025, in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, at the age of 78. Born on April 10, 1947, in Ohio, he lived a life marked by generosity, warmth, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and community.
A proud graduate of Mayfield High School, Big Rich went on to build a respected career as a Master Plumber and General Contractor for the City of Cleveland. His work ethic and commitment to service extended beyond his trade—he also served as a school crossing guard for both Lyndhurst and Mayfield City Schools. In every role he took on, Big Rich brought with him a sense of responsibility and care that left a lasting impression on those around him.
Big Rich was deeply devoted to his family. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter Heather Ann Young and his son Justin Young. He will be survived by his beloved Dog Bo. He also leaves behind his brothers James Young and Michael Young; sisters-in-law Vicki Young and Cecilia Young; nephews Chris, Jason, and Tony Young; and niece and nephews Jennifer Brucie and Joseph Walrath. His presence will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father Richard "Dick" mother Rita Ada, brother Ralph "Buddy" and niece Jamie.
Those who knew Big Rich will remember him as friendly, kind-hearted, outgoing, selfless, and generous—a simple man with a grand heart that extended to everyone he met. He was not only a great friend but also a wonderful father whose love knew no bounds.
Big Rich had an adventurous spirit and found joy in the natural world. He loved astronomy and art; he had a deep appreciation for animals; and he cherished time spent camping or fishing. Especially trolling for giant Muskies. Whether cheering on Cleveland sports teams or enjoying movies with friends and neighbors, he embraced life fully. His passion for anything military reflected both his curiosity and respect for history. Above all else, he treasured "Time on the Water," where he found peace and connection with nature.
His last selfless act was donating his body to Case Western Reserve.
May the memory of Big Rich bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as a reminder of the joy and laughs he brought into the lives of so many.
