Rita Sherb

1940 - 2026

Rita Sherb, 85, of Young Harris, Georgia, passed away on March 27, 2026.

Born on June 21, 1940, in Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Jim and Pauline Pepe.

She is survived by her children, Cris, Dierdra, and Elisa; her grandchildren, Cameron, Hunter, Alexa, Macie, and Bryson; and her brother, Arthur. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Larry.

Formerly of Boca Raton, Florida, she owned and operated RS Realty until her retirement. Cooking and traveling were among her passions, and she especially loved bringing people together for special occasions. She enjoyed decorating for the holidays and would want anyone in her circle to carry on those traditions.

She was notorious for her surprise gifts, always shopping online and finding something special for the people she loved.

Things that brought her joy: feeding the birds, listening to Tom Jones, enjoying happy hour, and trying her luck at the casino. She was deeply patriotic and felt it was important to honor veterans.

Rita was one of the strongest women you could ever meet. Unafraid of death, she carried herself with determination and independence. She was tough, but if she loved you, you knew it.

In her final days, her mind remained active—thinking about cooking, planning, and the projects she always had in motion. She spoke of seeing her father, which brought comfort in knowing he was there to guide her transition from this Earthly existence. She also looked forward to being reunited with her beloved dogs, Mugsy and Loki.

Her view that death is not the end brings comfort to those who loved her, and knowing she is now at peace and free from pain offers a quiet sense of solace.

She strongly believed that cardinals are a sign from loved ones who have passed. So when you see a cardinal, or notice the birds nearby, think of her. Raise a glass at happy hour, make a toast to Rita, and think of her often.
