Robert "Bob" Stanley Arthur, 90, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, in Rockville, Maryland.
Born on January 29, 1935, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Bob lived his early life with his parents and four siblings in Ambridge, PA. He went on to pursue higher education including earning a Bachelor of Science in Education from Slippery Rock State Teachers College and later a Master of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
After college, Bob started his professional life as a math teacher for Avalon High School. While in Avalon Bob met his wife Lee. In 1962, Bob was hired into IBM's Federal Systems Division as a programmer. His career grew and expanded with the company over the years, including working on space systems projects and his role evolved into a valued project manager.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bob had a keen talent for photography and writing. He used his creative skills to capture and share memories of travel with Lee, special holidays, and events and trips with family and friends. Music was always a part of Bob's life and, in later years, jazz, classical and opera music became a particular joy for him. Those who knew him well will remember his quick wit and dry humor.
Bob was deeply loved by his family. He shared 65 devoted years of marriage with his wife Lee. Together they raised three children and welcomed their children's spouses: Douglas Arthur (Shelly), Kimberly Thomas (Matthew), Jennifer Stenman (Robb). Bob took great pride in being "PapPap" to four grandchildren: Riley Arthur, Madeleine Arthur, Anna Stenman, and Caitlyn Stenman.
He will be remembered as a patient, intelligent and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
