Robert Allen Bowie II, age 79, of Dallas passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025. Robert ("Bob") was born in San Benito, Texas, the son of Catherine and Theodore Bowie on November 8, 1946. Bob was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) fraternity and a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin ('70) and Southern Methodist University Cox School of Business ('72). At UT Austin, Bob met the love of his life and lifelong partner, Jean McClain Smither. Bob and Jean got married in Huntsville, Texas in June 1970, then moved to Dallas to start their life together and had 2 sons, Travis and Ted. Bob worked in the banking and finance industry in Dallas for most of his career, rising through the ranks and serving in executive leadership positions at First National Bank, First Republic Bank, Lomas and Nettleton, and First USA. He had several hobbies and passions outside work, including restoring and collecting antique cars, running, coaching kids sports teams, watching Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys football, and bird hunting with his friends. Bob became well known in the Dallas community for his active civic and philanthropic efforts. Bob was passionate about childhood education and literacy as well as serving underprivileged communities. Upon retirement, he committed his time to several Dallas based charitable organizations including the Salvation Army, Jubilee Park, YMCA where he served as a Director, and Tackle Tomorrow, which he co-founded with Cowboy's Hall of Famer Charles Haley. Whether coaching his kids' sports teams, taking his family for a ride in his antique cars, going to the family lake house, or vacationing throughout Texas, California, Hawaii, and Europe, Bob's true love was his family. A devout Christian, Bob served as a member of the finance and building committee at Schreiber Memorial Methodist Church and later joined the Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, Texas. Bob is survived by his wife, Jean, of 56 years; sons Travis and Ted; grandchildren Owen, Emma, Coleman, and Tessa; and numerous other relatives and beloved friends. He will be dearly missed by all of those whose hearts he touched with his generosity, kindness, and love. The family will be hosting a graveside service on Saturday, December 20th at 2pm at the Oakwood Cemetery at 9th Street in Huntsville, Texas 77340. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Tackle Tomorrow or the Town North YMCA.
