Robert Nolan Carson, known to his family as Buddy, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on November 16, 2025, while in Beavercreek, Ohio, caring for his sister.
Nolan was born on March 15, 1949, in Jamestown, Ohio. He grew up in Jamestown and graduated from Greenview High School in 1967. He proudly served in the Army National Guard in Xenia, Ohio, from 1968 to 1974 and was always patriotic.
After high school, Nolan worked at NCR in Dayton, Ohio, and later at Vernay Laboratories in Yellow Springs, Ohio, from 1969 to 1979. In 1972, he married the love of his life, Cheryl (Noggle). They lived in Xenia, Ohio, before purchasing their first home in Jamestown, Ohio, in 1976.
Following the Blizzard of 1978, Nolan and Cheryl vacationed out west and began considering a move. In March of 1979, they relocated to Tucson, Arizona. Family thought they were crazy and expected them to return to Ohio within a year. With no jobs, no friends, and no place to live, they arrived in Arizona and spent their first week living in a Boy Scout tent with three Irish Setters. They never moved back. Arizona became their home and the place they loved.
Once settled, Nolan worked as a framer before moving into project planning and production control at Evergreen Air Center, an aircraft maintenance facility. He later worked for Lear Jet, Lockheed, and Ascent Aviation. Nolan loved airplanes and took great pride in his work.
Nolan later semi-retired and worked part-time as seasonal help with the U.S. Post Office. When offered a permanent position, he declined because he had already committed to a part-time job at Home Depot—a decision that reflected the integrity, loyalty, and character that defined him. He retired from Home Depot in 2024.
Nolan loved motorcycles, street bikes, and off-road riding. He and Cheryl enjoyed trips to the sand dunes with their three-wheelers, sand rail, quads, and eventually a RZR side-by-side. Camping throughout Arizona and Utah, as well as on the beaches of Mexico, were among their favorite adventures. Most of all, they cherished being at home and enjoying the life they built together on 10 acres.
Nolan is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Cheryl (Noggle) Carson; their devoted Irish Setter, Azee, who was deeply loved and a constant companion; sisters Carrol Dun of Beavercreek, Ohio, and Rita Karen Shaw (David) of Jamestown, Ohio; nieces Tammy Kilner (Brett) and Kim Ruby (Brian); brother-in-law Kent Noggle (Cindy); sister-in-law Robyn Calhoun; half-siblings Debbie Carrico (Larry) of Sabina, Ohio, Charlie Carson (Michelle) of Martinsville, Ohio, Steve Carson of Pensacola, Florida, Jamie Carson (Kelly) of Hillsboro, Ohio, and Mike Carson of Sabina, Ohio; Cheryl's nieces and nephews who adored him—Justin Noggle and family of Ohio, Jason Noggle and family of Arizona, and Jessica Brooks and Jodi Wilson of Ohio—as well as many other nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Nolan was loved and respected by all who knew him, and his passing leaves profound sadness in the hearts of many.
Nolan was preceded in death by his parents, Alice Carson and Charles "Kit" Carson; his sister Connie Rourke (Norm) of Brownsville, Texas; half-sister Cheryl Shamp (Gary) of Sabina, Ohio; and brother-in-law Larry Noggle (Tina) of Florida.
A celebration of Nolan's life will be held in the spring at the home he and Cheryl built and loved in Arizona. Details will be shared with family and friends.
