Robert was born and raised in Sebring, Florida. He was in the US Army and served in Korea. He graduated from the University of Florida and was an avid Gators fan his entire life. Robert was married to Charleton Galloway Butler for 60 years until her passing in 2009. He is survived by his three children, Patricia Thomas - Inverness, Florida: Deborah Butler and her husband, David Poff - Atlanta, Georgia: and Stefanie Butler- Decatur, Georgia. He is also survived by his grandson Robert Vitter, and his granddaughter Brittany Donahue. He is survived by eight great grandchildren and his nephew and four nieces. Robert lived 84 years in Florida primarily in Orlando. His passion was orange groves and his final career path was as an owner and operator of his several groves throughout Central Florida. He also worked for JCPenney and Eckerd Drugs. He and his wife were active members of First United Methodist Church of Orlando, and were long time residents of the Isle of Catalina. In 2012 he moved to Decatur GA and fell in love with all of the beauty in the state, particularly the mountains of North Shore Georgia. Robert was a member of Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church. He is loved and cherished by anyone who has ever met him. Services will be held in both Atlanta and Orlando.
