Robert Cloyd "Bob" left this world for a better place at the age of 97 on Monday, December 29, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Emma Fitzgerald Cloyd, his parents, James Earl and Lake Kathryn Cloyd, and his brothers, Bill Cloyd and Jim Cloyd.
Bob is survived by his wife of 11 years, Marie Kellough Cloyd, his two children, Richard (Margaret) Cloyd, Carol (John) Fee, grandchildren, Anna (Scott) Hand, Laura (Sam) Springer, DeeDee Webber, Cody (Kim) Fee, Allie (Violet Taylor) Fee, great grandchildren Evie and Bennett Hand, Gwen and Vera Webber, and Helen Springer. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Shirley Cloyd, nieces and nephews, including greats.
Additionally, he is survived by stepchildren, Michael (Marcia) Kellough, Janet Scott, Louise Kellough, step grandchildren, Jason (Aurora) Tyler, Michael Scott, Christopher (Caroline) Kellough, Michael (Megan) Kellough, Joshua (Madison) Kellough and step greats.
Bob was a competitive billiards player at the Huntsville Senior Center. He became Alabama state champion for his age group in billiards in 2013. He loved golfing from the age of 11 and enjoyed table tennis as well.
Bob was very faithfully involved at First Christian Church in Huntsville, serving on the board and committees, and singing bass in the choir for over 60 years.
After having graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee, he enjoyed a long career with Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal from 1951-53 and then from 1954-84. During 1953-54, Bob was drafted into the Army for 2 years until being honorably discharged. As a civilian, Bob served as a management analyst who received numerous commendations for leading studies for the Army Plans and Analysis Office.
Upon retirement from federal employment, Bob volunteered delivering meals and providing transportation locally in the Huntsville area. He opened a patio furniture store located in 3 different retail locations in Huntsville with his wife, Emma. They operated the USA Casual furniture store for 5 years.
Bob was a very loving father, grandfather, and husband who enjoyed time with all his family.
A memorial service is planned for Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 10am in the sanctuary of First Christian Church, 3209 Whitesburg Drive, Huntsville. A reception will follow the service.
