Robert James Duncan
Robert James Duncan, age 74, passed away suddenly in Tulare, CA, on December 17, 2025. Bob was a long-time resident of Tulare, CA. He is a native of San Francisco, where he attended local schools, graduating from Lowell High School in 1969. After graduating from UC Santa Barbara, his career was in probation, working as a probation officer for Tulare County and for the Federal Court Pretrial Services as Agency Chief.
Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife, Kathleen Duncan, his daughter Jennifer Hofland and his father James Franklin Duncan. He is survived by his mother Ruth Vollmer Duncan of Concord, CA, his brother Paul Duncan of El Cerrito, CA, his daughter Wendy Smith of Oakdale, Ca, 5 grandchildren, Trevor, Mason and Chase Smith and Cameron and Chloe Hofland, sisters-in-law Susan Duncan, Cheryl Limas and Charlyne Jones. He leaves behind nieces and nephews Robert Duncan, Sarah Hibler, Leanne Goviea, Toni Turner, Marc Limas, Eric Limas, Mike Perry, Jeanette Brasil and his loving cousin Rebecca Duncan.
Bob was an active and devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Visalia where he served as a deacon.
He enjoyed reading and listening to music, especially the Grateful Dead, Hot Tuna, Flying Burrito Brothers, Dave Matthews and classic and contemporary blues artists.
Bob will be remembered for his soft, compassionate, loving style along with his great concern for social justice and ready sense of humor. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Bob's life will be held on January 24th, 2026, at 11 AM, First Presbyterian Church, 215 N. Locust Street, Visalia, CA. A lunch reception in the fellowship hall will follow the service.
