Robert Martin Farmer, known to all as Bob, was born on September 21, 1931, in Greenfield, Massachusetts, to William A. Farmer and Lucy Z. Farmer. In 1946, he moved to Manchester, Connecticut, a place that would always feel like home. Bob graduated from Manchester High School and later earned his degree from the University of Connecticut School of Business.
Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserve, stationed in Germany from 1954 to 1956 with the 62nd AAA Battalion (AW SP).
The center of Bob's life was his beloved wife, Grace "Gay". Together they shared sixty-five years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and devotion. Bob and Gay lived in South Windsor before settling in Columbia, Connecticut, where they raised their three daughters and built a home rich with family memories. After retirement, they moved to Dawtaw Island, South Carolina, embracing a new chapter together. They also treasured their time on Fripp Island, where Bob and Gay delighted in hosting family and friends, creating countless joyful gatherings that will be fondly remembered.
Travel was one of Bob and Gay's great joys. In retirement, they explored much of the world and loved sharing those adventures with close friends, always returning home with stories to tell.
Bob was predeceased by his wife, Gay, the love of his life, and by his daughter, Jennifer Lynn Berman.
He is survived by his daughters Karen Newcomb and her husband Bill of Vernon, Connecticut, and Melissa Seres and her husband Bill of Watertown, Connecticut and his son-in-law Scott Berman. Bob's legacy lives on through his grandchildren—Trevor (Jenelle) Newcomb, Dana (Stephanie) Newcomb, Rachel (Matt) Munafo, Joshua (Tanya) Berman, Catherine (Justin) Wymbs, Jordan Berman, and Andrew Seres—and his great-grandchildren, Morgan, Tucker, Alexandra, and Margot, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
Bob will be remembered for his kindness, his love of family and a life well lived alongside those he cherished most.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 PM on Sunday, February 22nd at Center Congregational Church, 11 Center Street, Manchester, CT. Reception to follow at Manchester Country Club.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Columbia Lions, PO Box 1, Columbia, CT 06237.
