Robert Bruce Fingles, known as Bruce, passed away on January 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with illness. He was 79 years old.
Born on June 6, 1946, in Baltimore, Maryland, Bruce was a true Baltimorean. He grew up in the Roland Park neighborhood, where he formed lifelong friendships and a deep love for his city. He was the beloved son of the late William A. Fingles, Jr. and Mary S. Fingles.
Bruce attended The Boys' Latin School of Maryland, graduating in 1964, where he proudly played football and lacrosse—sports he would continue to love throughout his life. He went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Loyola College of Maryland and later completed his master's degree at Coppin State.
In 1969, Bruce married Victoria Primm Kempton, beginning a loving partnership that spanned 56 years. Together they raised two daughters, Ginna and Tori, and built a life centered on family, friends, and community.
Bruce began his career as a state and later federal probation officer. Later, following the passing of his mother, he took over the family business, The Fingles Company, a sheet metal shop, continuing his family's heritage with pride and integrity. Before retiring, he worked for a security company.
Above all else, Bruce cherished time with the people he loved. He was happiest laughing with friends, playing croquet, cards, or tennis, and spending long days at the beach. He was also an avid Baltimore Colts fan and later found joy cheering on the Baltimore Ravens. He spent many years coaching his daughters' sports, and he rarely missed an opportunity to watch or support any sport or activity his grandchildren were involved in, delighting in their accomplishments.
Bruce is survived by his beloved wife, Vicki, his daughters, Ginna Kelly and Tori Fingles, both of Baltimore; his son-in-law, Ryan Kelly; and his four adored grandchildren, Maggie, Carter, Ryan, and Kemp Kelly. Bruce was preceded in death by his brothers, James Rodney Fingles and William A. Fingles III.
A Celebration of Life is being planned to honor Bruce's life, legacy, and the many friendships he cherished.
