Robert Vern "Bob" Freeman, age 96, passed away peacefully at home in Indianapolis, Indiana, on February 5, 2026.
Born on June 18, 1929, in Camby, Indiana, Bob lived a long and eventful life that spanned nearly a century of remarkable change and growth. His journey was filled with unique experiences and colorful stories that reflected his adventurous spirit and deep curiosity about the world around him.
Bob grew up as the son of a Quaker minister, an upbringing that shaped many of his early values and perspectives. One of his earliest memories included attending the funeral of John Dillinger—an event he reached by wagon—offering a glimpse into the extraordinary times he lived through. Throughout his life, Bob embraced new opportunities with enthusiasm and fearlessness.
He worked alongside his brother Alias Freeman—also known as Frank L Inn—who trained the beloved dog Benji. Together, they spent time on the sets of iconic television shows such as *The Beverly Hillbillies* and *Petticoat Junction*, contributing to moments that became part of American pop culture history. Bob’s talents extended beyond entertainment; he became a licensed pilot and later embraced technology by learning how to use computers—a testament to his lifelong commitment to learning and adapting.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife Jacqueline Lambert Freeman and his brother Alias Freeman (Frank L Inn). He is remembered with love by his son Cecil Freeman; stepsons Julius, Broatus (Ginny), Randy (Kathy), and Randal (Liz) Lambert; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who carry forward his legacy.
