Robert "Bob" Gillen, 67, passed away on March 11th, 2026, in Nunda, New York. Born on October 3rd, 1958, in Newburgh, New York, Robert lived a life marked by dedication, love for his family, and a passion for the outdoors.
Robert devoted 36 years of his career to serving as a Correction Officer at Groveland Correctional Facility. His commitment to his work reflected his steadfast nature and sense of responsibility. Beyond his professional life, Robert found joy and solace in the great outdoors. An avid outdoorsman, he spent countless hours immersed in nature, embracing its beauty and tranquility. He also had a profound appreciation for history, often delving into stories of the past with genuine curiosity and enthusiasm.
Above all else, Robert's greatest pride was his family. He was a devoted father who cherished every moment with his children—Korey and Jennifer Gillen; Chelsey and Nick Coffaro; Ashley Gillen; Aidan Wood and Mackenzie Gillen. His unwavering love and support were constants in their lives as he celebrated their achievements and stood by them through challenges. His grandchildren—Maddie, Weston, and Ryder Gillen—brought him immense joy and filled his days with laughter and love.
Robert is survived by his father George Gillen; his ex-wife Mechelle Gillen; his sister Janet Swensen and her husband Mark; as well as his beloved children and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his mother Irene Gillen and brother David Gillen.
Robert was at his best with a group of friends and a story to tell; he had a way of making even the smallest moments feel worth sharing. Robert's legacy is one of love, strength, and an enduring connection to both family and nature. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
