Robert A. "Bob" Green
1940 - 2026
Bob Green, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully Saturday morning in hospice care, at the age of 85 and a half. He was married to his beloved wife, Andrea L. (Pelosi) Green, for more than 60 years. Born in Palmerton, PA, he was the son of the late Robert M. Green and Elizabeth (Glomb) Green Kaldy (Rudy).
After graduating from Stephen S. Palmer H.S., class of 1958, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Lackland AFB, Keesler AFB, and RAF Alconbury (England) in radar and radio maintenance, serving until 1962.
He went on to graduate from Bloomsburg, Temple, and Nova universities with a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Therapy, Master’s in Speech Pathology, and a Doctorate in Educational Administration.
Bob was a Whitehall resident for more than 55 years. He was employed from 1965 to 1996 by Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 as a speech therapist, hearing therapist, supervisor of special education, and retired as assistant director of special education. He was a past chairman of the Minsi Trails Council Scouting with Special Needs program.
He was an avid amateur radio operator (KE3AW) for more than 40 years and never missed an opportunity to share stories of his 75-foot radio tower or his countless QSO contacts. Bob held many executive positions with the Delaware Lehigh Amateur Radio Club (DLARC) and was active at field days, special event stations, and in the testing of new ham operators. He flawlessly organized communication for many community events, such as MS 150 bike rides and the Emmaus Halloween Parade.
In his retirement, Bob and Andrea traveled extensively throughout the United States, the Caribbean, and Europe with a group of long-time friends. Bob volunteered with the Palmerton Historical Society and was active with an online group dedicated to Air Force veterans and friends of RAF Alconbury. He was a proud member of the Fullerton American Legion Post 367.
In addition to his wife, Andrea, Bob is survived by his children Kelly Ann Krauss (Roger) of Bethlehem Township, PA; Andy Green (Kim) of Redlands, CA; grandchildren Emily and Erin Krauss; sister Kay Rizzetto (Lou); sister-in-law Gloria Hinrichs; brothers-in-law Dave Hinrichs and Bob Harry; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Jean Angney (Larry) and sister-in-law, Anita Harry.
A memorial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any contributions be made in his name to the amateur radio ARRL Foundation (arrl.org/the-arrl-foundation) or to the Special Olympics (support.specialolympics.org)
