Robert G Hartmann passed away on January 24, 2026, at his Upper West Side apartment in New York City. He was 92.

Born on April 10, 1933, in Rockville Centre, New York, Robert—known to many as Bob—pursued higher education at Adelphi University, graduating in 1954 with a degree in Spanish. Reflecting on his time there, he once said, “Adelphi is really where I became enthusiastic about receiving an education.” He would later on continue his education at NMSU.

Bob took that degree and enthusiasm to the business world and built a distinguished career in international sales, which allowed him to travel extensively while establishing global distribution channels. His professional journey culminated in his role as Vice President of Fieldcrest Cannon, a leading international producer of towels, bed sheets, and furniture coverings.

Following his retirement in 1992, Bob sought continued intellectual engagement but found limited options that suited his lifestyle. In response, he founded Quest in 1995—a peer-led educational program designed to expand students’ intellectual and social horizons. Now part of the CUNY system with over 240 active members, Quest remains a vibrant community. Bob served on its board for four years and held two terms as president. In addition to his contributions to lifelong learning, Bob established a perpetually endowed scholarship program that has helped many graduates to move up the economic ladder.

He will be remembered for his philanthropy and the meaningful impact he had on those around him. He was a devoted son and brother, caring uncle, generous neighbor, and loving friend.

Bob is survived by his sisters, Lois Moore and Judy Masters; their daughters, Tara Moore and Jennifer Masters; and grand-nieces Jamila Enlagger and Hannah Enlagger.

A Celebration of Life will be held on February 6, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Robert G. Hartmann’s residence: 685 West End Avenue, Apartment 15D.
