Robert August Herd

Robert August "Bob" Herd, 82, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026, at AVOW Hospice in Naples, Florida, after a brief illness.

Born on April 30, 1943, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Bob was the son of the late August John Herd and Frances (Kaiser) Herd. He grew up in Connecticut and graduated from East Hartford High School before earning his degree from the University of Connecticut as part of the Class of 1967.

During his time at UConn, Bob participated in Army ROTC and later served as a Lieutenant in the United States Army. His military service brought him overseas to Vicenza, Italy—an experience that remained a meaningful chapter in his life.

Bob began his professional career at The Factory Insurance Association. Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, he went on to found The Charter Oak Insurance Agency in Bloomfield, Connecticut. He later continued his work with Wentworth, DeAngelis & Kaufman in Farmington. Throughout his career, Bob was known for his deep knowledge of insurance and his commitment to serving clients.

He raised his daughters Christine and Pamela with their mother, his former wife Michele Millane, in Collinsville, Connecticut. Bob is survived by his daughters: Christine Major and her husband Dave; Pamela Herd and her husband Don Moynihan; and granddaughters: Molly, Maggie, Aoife, and Maeve. He also leaves behind his sister Marie McCusker and her husband Ed; along with their children Amy Powers (Darren) and Ted McCusker (Mandy).

A lifelong boating enthusiast, Bob found joy and peace on the water. His time at Mystic River Marina and later at Seaport Marine in Mystic, CT and Naples, FL brought him lasting friendships and cherished memories.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. Honoring his wishes, there will be no calling hours or services. Burial will be private.
