Robert Alfred Horne Jr., a man of deep faith, immense love for his family, and an unmatched tenderness, was called home to be with the Lord on January 19, 2026, in Chester, Virginia. He was 84 years old.
Born on December 11, 1941, in Jenkins, Kentucky, to Robert Sr. and Lucille Horne, Robert's life was defined by his devotion to his family and his country. He shared 66 beautiful years of marriage with his wife, Karen Irene Horne, building a legacy of love that served as the cornerstone for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also served for many years as a dedicated employee of the CIA. While he was proud of all of the work he did while there, he was especially excited about starting a prayer group at the agency, which allowed him to connect with his colleagues about their shared faith.
Robert spent over thirty years in Northern Virginia, where he was a pillar of his community and a devoted member of Chapel Springs Assembly of God. Even after relocating in 2021, he remained close to his church family, keeping in contact with the congregation he loved so dearly.
A natural storyteller and observer of life's beauty, Robert had a deep love for writing and sharing his poetry. His verses, much like his personality, were often a blend of his tender-hearted nature and his playful sense of humor. In his downtime, Robert was an avid, if anxious, fan of the Kentucky Wildcats. His family fondly remembers him turning off the television mid-game when the score became too close for his nerves to handle. He also had a giving heart, and found immense joy in hosting family, friends, and dogs in his home when they needed a place to stay.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr. and Lucille; his brother, Jack; and his grandson, Joshua Todd Kennedy.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen; his children, Jamie Elford (Don) and Robert "Robbie" Horne III (Barbara); two siblings, Ronnie Horne (Alisha) and Barbara Roberts (Walt); five grandchildren: Keegan Kennedy, Sarah Zamfir (Serban), Chase Kennedy (Morgan), Abigail Harvell (Nathan), and Luke Horne. He also leaves behind five great-grandchildren who brought him endless smiles: Emilia, Lucy, Henry, Owen, and Jacob.
While he will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in the faith that guided him and the many poems and memories he left behind. A service will be held for Robert at Chapel Springs Assembly of God (11500 New Life Way, Bristow, VA 20136) on Saturday, March 7, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:00, and the service will begin at 11:00.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Robert's name to
The Parkinson's Foundation.
