Robert Dean Marcley

1932 - 2026

Robert ("Bob") Dean Marcley passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026 surrounded by his wife and children at his home in San Clemente, California. Bob was born on March 27, 1932, in Aurora, Illinois. He was the kind of man who quietly took care of the people around him and the community he called home, never seeking recognition for simply doing what he believed was right.

He graduated from East Aurora High School with the Class of 1950 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Bob owned Marcley Oil Co. and remained deeply rooted in Aurora. He gave back to his community in countless ways coaching boys' baseball, serving on the Aurora Planning Commission, and contributing his time to the Aurora Jaycees and the Moose Club. He also played fast-pitch softball in city, church, and industrial leagues well beyond the year's most would have hung up their glove.

In 1980, he married Susan (Lunde) and moved to Newport Beach, California. Together, they built a life defined by love of family, friends and adventure - sailing, traveling the world, and riding Bob's motorcycle across the country. Horses were a lifelong passion. He rode with the U.S. Marshals Posse, including appearances in the Rose Parade, and took part in a 400-mile wagon train ride retracing the 1860 Bridger Wagon Trail from Bozeman, Montana, to Cody, Wyoming.

Bob and Susan lived in Newport Beach for the first 20 years of their marriage before settling in San Clemente for the past 26 years. The California coast suited him perfectly.

Bob had a gift for making people laugh and gave the kind of hugs you didn't forget. He was proud of his children and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, making sure each of them knew it.

He is preceded in death by his parents Eugene Charles and Edith Margaret Marcley

He is survived by his wife, Susan; his sister, Charlene Lyons, his six children, Jeffery (Lauren), Cathy Alford, Erik (Carolina) Lunde, Linda (David) Belzer, Lisa (Pano) Coromelas, and Debbie (Don) Maier; and more grandchildren and great-grandchildren than this page can fully capture.

Bob was a proud and devoted patriot whose love of country never wavered. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project.
