Robert "Bob" Freedman passed away on February 26, 2026, after a long struggle with kidney disease. He was born in Seattle, Washington, on May 12, 1952, to Robert W. and Cecilia A. Freedman, and was the oldest of their four children.
Bob attended Roosevelt High School and later earned his GED. Skiing was his lifelong passion and one of the great joys of his life. He spent countless days on the slopes at Crystal Mountain, often ending the day with friends and fellow skiers at the Snorting Elk Cellar. While Crystal Mountain was his home base, Bob skied at many other places over the years and was among the early pioneers and participants of speed skiing. Bob was particularly proud of his recorded run of 189.27 km/h (117.6 mph) that placed him among the faster speed skiers of the 1980s,
Bob worked for many years as a crane operator at the Port of Seattle and was a proud member of the International Longshoremen's Union until his retirement in 2025.
Bob was intelligent, independent, and known for his sharp sense of humor. Although he lived much of his life apart from family, the friendships he formed over the years were meaningful to him and remained an important part of his life.
Bob was preceded in death by his younger sister, Alice, in 1985; his father, Robert W., in 1988; and his mother, Cecilia, in 2025. He is survived by his brother, Fred Freedman; his sister, Mary Harvill; his nephew, Spencer Freedman; and his niece, Lesley Albert and her husband, Cody.
Bob will be remembered by friends for his love of skiing and lively conversation.
A graveside burial service will be held on March 10 at 11am at Calvary Cemetery, 5041 35th Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98105 (206)522-0996
