Robert (Bob) Neel Cummings, 93, of Williamsburg, VA, and formerly of Waynesboro, VA, died on January 28, 2026, peacefully at home.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Virginia (Roller); sons William Cummings (Cindy) of Warrenton, VA, Gary Cummings (Karen) of Williamsburg, VA, and David Cummings (Christa) of Palm Bay, FL. He is also survived by his brother Gerald Cummings; his grandchildren Brian Cummings (Kelley), Brad Cummings (Andrea), Nicole Harwood (Ethan), Michael Cummings, Cady Milley (Robert), and Brenna Cummings; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester Theo Cummings and Helen Griffith Cummings; his sister, Marion Karl; and brothers William Cummings and Donald Cummings.
Bob was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on February 15, 1932, and served in the U.S. Navy, where he met his future wife, Virginia. They married in December of 1952. Bob spent his career as a mortgage banker. They lived in Staunton, VA; Pittsburgh, PA; Poolesville, MD; and Alexandria, VA, before retiring to Waynesboro, VA. In later years, they moved to Williamsburg, VA. He was a faithful church and choir member, and was known for his corny "Grandpa jokes," his fierce independence, and always being ready for an adventure.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Samaritans Purse (www.samaritanspurse.org) or a charity of the donor's choice.
