Robert Lee Newman, 74, passed away on December 24, 2025, in Birmingham, Alabama. Born on September 1, 1951, in North Carolina, Robert—affectionately known to many as "Rambling Rob"—left behind a legacy of warmth, faith, and dedication that touched countless lives.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy Newman. As a devoted caregiver to Kathy, he never missed a day reminding her how much he loved her. Their bond was one of enduring love and unwavering support.
A man of deep faith, Robert found great joy and solace in his spiritual life. He spent cherished time at the Grotto at St. Patrick's and was a regular attendee at Mass. His commitment extended beyond attendance; he served as a lector during Easter and Christmas services and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. His presence in the church community was marked by reverence and service.
Professionally, Robert made his mark in radio broadcasting during the 1980s and 1990s. Known on-air as "Rambling Rob," he became a familiar voice to many listeners who appreciated his engaging personality and upbeat spirit. His passion for connecting with people shone through every broadcast, earning him admiration throughout the industry.
Robert had an infectious positivity that defined his interactions with others. Whether behind a microphone or in everyday life, he enjoyed meeting people and sharing in their stories. His optimism left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire kindness, faith, and joy in the lives he touched. A Funeral Mass will be held on January 2, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church 301 Shamrock Trial. There will be visitation at 10 am ,
