Robert Lyle "Bob" Nodurft, 87, passed away on December 27, 2025, in Iowa City, Iowa. Born on January 25, 1938, in Durant, Iowa, Bob lived a life defined by hard work, family devotion, and a passion for speed and craftsmanship.
Bob dedicated much of his professional life to the family business, Nodurft Plumbing and Heating. He worked tirelessly until 1993 when he passed the torch to his son Chris. Even after stepping back from the business, Bob continued to share his deep knowledge of the trades by mentoring others until his retirement in 2009. His reputation for HVAC intuition was legendary—he was known for diagnosing and fixing a furnace or a boiler over the phone with nothing more than a friend's description and his own sharp instincts.
A true enthusiast of motorsports, Bob was an avid drag racer and stock car driver who also raced snowmobiles. His love for racing extended beyond the track; it was a bond he shared deeply with his son Chris and grandson Collin. Whether behind the wheel of a racecar or riding his lawnmower at Muddy Waters MX with flair, Bob found joy in speed and camaraderie. He cherished time spent at the racetrack—cheering from the sidelines with a cold Bud Light in hand.
Bob also had a fondness for "junk shopping," fast cars, and visiting wineries. These simple pleasures reflected his appreciation for life's unique treasures and moments of connection.
He was a loving father and grandfather whose kindness and talent left lasting impressions on those around him. Bob is survived by his son Christopher Robert Nodurft and fiancée Tracy Trondson; daughter Rebecca Nodurft Gardner and her husband Andy; bonus son Drew Hanlin; granddaughter Morgan Nodurft; grandson Hunter Lawrence; and grandson Collin Nodurft.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys (Sodemann) and Robert Nodurft.
Bob's legacy lives on through the lives he touched—as a mentor in the trades, a fierce competitor on the track, and a steadfast presence within his family. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
A Celebration of life will be held at Icons Martini Bar in the District of Rock Island on February 7th at 2pm
