After graduating with a degree in Industrial Arts education, he was drafted into the Army in 1954 as a Private 1st class, stationed outside of Frankfurt, Germany with the 3rd armored tank division as a company clerk. After discharge, his teaching career took him from Ravenna, NY to Leonia, NJ, where he met his wife, Janet. Relocating to Glen Burnie, MD in 1969 he joined the Anne Arundel County school system to teach high school Industrial Arts, and drivers' education, eventually being promoted to the position of Industrial Arts Curriculum Coordinator until his retirement in 1993.

Robert enjoyed working on home improvement projects, making toys for his grandchildren, was an avid reader, and loved historical British television and mystery programs. In retirement, he enjoyed playing pickleball, researching the family genealogy, traveling to see family and took trips to Israel, New Zealand, Ireland, and China as well as the annual beach vacation at Emerald Island, NC with family.

He was a faithful member of the Harundale Presbyterian church for 57 years and gave many hours to working on various committees. He was an admired friend in the men's group, the McDonalds Ministers, and aided in many projects to improve the church building and grounds. Those who knew him will remember him for his generosity, steady presence, and sense of humor.
