Robert Cosgrove Tanner Jr., age 72, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, in Wallingford, Connecticut. Born on May 20, 1953, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Robert lived a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to his family, friends, and community.
Bob earned his bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology from Nasson College in Maine. However, his professional journey led him to a remarkable career spanning over three decades with the State of Connecticut in the field of mental health. As a Forensic Rehabilitation Therapist, Bob was deeply respected for his unwavering commitment to his patients. His sense of humor and compassionate nature made him beloved by colleagues and those he served. He consistently went above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of others.
Bob’s passions extended far beyond his professional life. A lover of animals and nature, he found joy in fishing and spending time near the water. He was an environmentally conscious individual who appreciated the beauty of the world around him. Music played a significant role in his life—he was particularly fond of The Beatles and embraced their message of peace and love. Known for his kindness and loyalty, Bob was a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, and cherished friend who could turn any moment into an opportunity for fun.
An antique collector, restorer of treasures, and flea market enthusiast, Bob had an uncanny ability to "MacGyver" anything—a skill that endeared him to many. His zest for life was infectious, and he will be remembered for his humor, creativity, and boundless generosity.
Son of late Robert Cosgrove Tanner and Janet Tanner, Bob is survived by his loving wife Melanie Tanner; his daughter Heather Arsenault and son-in-law J Arsenault; his son Ryan Tanner and daughter-in-law Kristi Tanner; and his treasured grandchildren Brody Tanner and Kylie Tanner. He also leaves behind his brother David Tanner; sister Susan Amorando; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will forever hold him close in their hearts. He was predeceased by his brother Ted Tanner.
In honor of Bob’s legacy of kindness and joy, may we all strive to live with the same spirit of love and peace that he embodied throughout his life. As John Lennon once said—and as Bob believed—“Love and peace are eternal.”
