Robert Allan Wright

1965 - 2025

Robert Allan Wright, September 6, 1965 - September 28, 2025, died at the age of 60 years, way before he had his fill of bingo and Rocky Road ice cream. Robert was born in Omaha, Nebraska and moved to California with his family as a young teen. Robert lived his entire life with intractable epilepsy and all that involved (medication side-effects, brain surgeries, falls and concussions, stigma, a swallow disorder, mobility decline - just to name a few).

Despite his disability, Robert was an energetic child, passionate about educating others about epilepsy throughout his life and had an unwavering faith. He also loved jokes, Disneyland, pizza, word searches and, of course, bingo and Rocky Road ice cream. In his later years, Robert had a delightful way of declaring he was "super, amazing, excellent, and great" (even when in the ED or ICU). He had wonderful neurologists who worked toward controlling his seizures and almost got there before Robert passed away unexpectedly due to a quick onset of septic shock due to pancreatitis (caused by gall stones of all things!).

Robert was preceded in death by his mom, Judith Brady-Ledbetter, step-dad, George Ledbetter, dad, Allan Wright, and long-time companion, Judy Davison. Robert is survived by his sister, Trish Hughes Kreis, (who he reminded everyone is 5 years older than him), his brother-in-law, Richard Kreis, (who he affectionately called "Richardson"), and his brother, Rich Wright, (who he proudly described as the "bookkeeper of San Francisco" even though he wasn't), as well as several nieces and nephews and their kids whom he adored. Robert is also missed by his buddy, Taz, who loved to play ball with him when Robert lived with Trish and Richard.

He will be missed by all who knew him: his caring doctors, nurses and physical therapists, the terrific staff at his Easter Seals Day Program, everyone at University Post Acute Rehab from nurses, directors, activities directors and CNAs, as well as his much loved caregiver, Pattae.

Robert had many close calls with death throughout his life and miraculously pulled through every time. He was bound to run out of miracles eventually but this time still caught us by surprise. We are comforted by the thought that his lasting miracle is the joy he spread to everyone he met. His smile will be hard to forget.

The memorial service will be held at Lind Brothers Funeral Home in Carmichael, California on Saturday, October 25 at 1:00 p.m. The family asks that if you would like to make a donation, you consider the Chelsea Hutchison Foundation which is a nonprofit that helps those with epilepsy and their families. We would also love it if you would please think of Robert the next time you play bingo or eat a bowl of ice cream!
