Robert Winslow Wunderlich, Feb 6, 1929 - June 30, 2025

Robert Winslow Wunderlich, "Bob" of San Luis Obispo passed away on June 30, 2025 in Atascadero California.

Bob was born in 1929 in Pennsylvania to Frederick and Anna Wunderlich. Bob spent his early years growing up on various US Army bases including several years on a base in the Philippines. Bob attended high school at the New Mexico Military Institute.

Bob served two years in the US Navy between high school and college. In 1952 Bob graduated from the Stanford University School of Engineering.

While at Stanford Bob met Beverly Ann Bock. They married in 1951 and together had four children.

After graduation Bob joined the construction firm Guy F. Atkinson. He had a successful forty year career as a project manager supervising the construction of freeways, bridges and power plants throughout the western United States and a few overseas assignments.

During his working years Bob also found time to serve as a Reserve Sheriff Deputy for five years each in San Mateo County and Orange County.

Bob married Moira Chaney in 1980. They celebrated their 45th anniversary a week before his death and were together until his last breath.

Bob and Moira settled in San Luis Obispo after Bob retired in 1991. It seems that Bob was busier in retirement than during his working life. He and Moira gave generously of their time to several charitable organizations in the SLO area, including support for new parents, the Old Mission School and the Monastery of the Risen Christ.

Bob loved his dogs and he was a long time member of the local dog clubs. He and Moira raised eight puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind.

His family and those who knew him remember Bob as a man of strong character and sharp intellect. His cardinal virtues were honor and integrity. He had a brilliant and curious mind and always savored a good debate.

He was a life-long learner and student of history, science, religious philosophy and computer programming. He used the computer skills he learned in retirement to develop important computer programs for several non-profit organizations.

Bob is survived by his wife Moira Wunderlich; children Kathryn Wunderlich, Karen Stockwell, James Wunderlich and Robert Wunderlich; stepchildren Christopher Chaney, James Chaney, Benson Chaney, Maureen Tabor and dozens of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly Bock Wunderlich, his parents, two brothers and a sister.
