Rodman “Roddy” Primack

1943 - 2026

Rodman “Roddy” Primack, a beloved husband, father, and dedicated sportsman, passed away peacefully at his home in Capo Beach, California, on March 21, 2026, after an extended battle with cancer and later, dementia. He was 82 years old.

Roddy, “Papa” is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Karen Primack, whose companionship was the cornerstone of his life. He is also survived by his four children: Terese Colbert, Alix Primack Jarrard, Rodman Primack, and Blaine Pecaut and numerous grandchildren.

A man who made things with his hands his entire life, Rod possessed a remarkable gift for craftsmanship. His professional work took many forms — first shaping surfboards and catamarans for the legendary Hobie brand, then crafting ski boots for Scott USA, and for the bulk of his working life, executing beautiful finish carpentry.

Always in motion, Rod found joy particularly in the ocean riding the waves as a surfer or gliding across the water on a stand-up paddle board; which he continued to do until recently. He also loved to ski, or log miles on his road bike -he approached every pursuit with energy and dedication. His love of the outdoors extended to his own backyard, where he was an avid gardener who took quiet pride in his tomatoes (just like his father.)

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Rod’s memory to the American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR) at www.afar.org.

Rodman Primack will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him — remembered as a gentle man with bright blue eyes, an easy warmth and winning smile.
