Roger Edward Boyd

Roger Edward Boyd, age 67, of Pickens, South Carolina, went home to Heaven to be with his Savior, surrounded by loved ones, on the evening of January 18, 2026. Born in Cleveland, South Carolina, on October 26, 1958, Roger devoted much of his life to his faith and community, serving as a deacon for over 30 years at New Hope Baptist Church in Pumpkintown, South Carolina.
Roger was a man of deep faith and compassion, known for his unwavering commitment to helping others. His love for the Lord was evident in his daily life and through his long-standing involvement with his church. He served as the song leader for several decades and guided many in their walk with Christ. Roger was always ready to take on a new project—whether crafting items for Vacation Bible School or building tools for his family—and he never hesitated to lend a helping hand. He cherished time spent with his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews and was a wonderful mentor to both the young and the aged. Roger left a positive and lasting impact on all who met him.
In addition to his faith and family commitments, Roger was an avid blacksmith and woodworker. These hobbies not only brought him joy but also allowed him to serve others by creating and repairing items for those around him.
Roger is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Patricia Dianne Boyd; his daughters, Mary Beth Boyd and Patricia Ann Boyd; his granddaughter, Samantha Gonzalez; his grandson, Walker Gonzalez (Meghan); and countless others whose lives he touched and children he loved as his own.
He was laid to rest by loved ones on January 19, 2026. A service to celebrate Roger's life will be held at New Hope Baptist Church in Pumpkintown, South Carolina, on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Hope Baptist Church in Pumpkintown, South Carolina, in honor of Roger's lifelong commitment to his faith and community.
Roger's legacy of love, mentorship, and service will be remembered by all who knew him. We rejoice in knowing that he is in Heaven with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, to live with Him for eternity. We know his only wish would be that all of his loved ones would come to know Christ and join him there someday.
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation" (Romans 10:9-10).
