Roger James Stickles, Sr.

Roger James Stickles, Sr., 76, of Lake Wales, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 22, 1949, in Massena, New York, Roger was the beloved son of Robert James Stickles and Elvie Clara Sturge.
Roger was a devoted family man whose life was enriched by the love and companionship of those closest to him. He attended Massena Schools and at the age of 16, began his journey into family life when he married Mary Virginia Gravel in May 1966. He later found love again with Francis Sharon Laraby Stickles, with whom he shared many cherished years until her passing in 2023. Roger spent his final years in the loving company of his companion, Tina Marie Chestnut.
A gifted musician from the age of five, Roger's passion for music was a defining part of his life. He shared his talent as a member of many bands throughout the years, most notably his own Whiskey River Band. His musical legacy brought joy to countless audiences and will be remembered by all who had the privilege of hearing him play.
Throughout his life, Roger demonstrated unwavering dedication to his family and built a legacy of love that spans multiple generations. His warmth, kindness, and steadfast presence touched the lives of all who knew him.
Roger was predeceased by his beloved son, Roger Stickles, Jr.; his parents, Robert James Stickles and Elvie Clara Sturge; and his wife, Francis Sharon Laraby Stickles.
Roger is survived by his devoted sister, Linda Ann Stickles Haas, and her partner, Stephen Gonia. He leaves behind his four children: Tammy Lyn and her husband David Chappell of Lake Wales, Florida; Barbara Ann Butcher of Lakeland, Florida; Robert Arthur Stickles of Potsdam, New York; and William John Stickles of New Port Richey, Florida. He is also survived by his stepchildren: Steven Richard Whiting, Melissa Seaton, Tracy Livingston, and Billie Jo Sharon Whiting, as well as his daughter-in-law, Susan Stickles, who lovingly called him "Pappy."
Roger's legacy continues through his eight grandchildren—Justin, Brian II, Christopher, Tabatha, Tamantha, Brittany, Aiden, and Leo—and his nine great-grandchildren, with another expected to join the family in February 2026.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 19th at 3:00 p.m. at the Moose Lodge in Lake Wales, Florida, where family and friends will gather to honor Roger's memory and celebrate a life well-lived.
Roger's gentle spirit, love for his family, and the joy he brought to those around him will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
