Ronald Garrie Boucher, Sr.

1933 - 2026

Ronald Garrie Boucher Sr. ("Ron") died on March 8, 2026 in his sleep. He was 92 years old. Ron was born to Lilian Mae Dixon and Ralph John Boucher on August 15, 1933 at the Quantico Marine Hospital in Quantico Virginia while his Father was serving in the Marines in Nicaragua. Ron grew up in Washington, DC. He resided in Charlestown Senior Living Community in Catonsville, MD from 2011 until the time of his death. After serving in the U.S. Army in Sandia, NM, he married Katharine Ann Loftus Boucher ("Kate") Boucher in 1957 and they lived with their family in Washington, DC, Milwaukee, WI and Glen Burnie, MD before settling in Severna Park, MD in 1972, where he and his family lived for 40 years.

Mr. Boucher will be remembered for his sense of humor, charm, and passion for social justice. He loved his family and was dedicated to service to people, the church, and community as a whole.

Ron was a founding parishioner at St. Bernadette Roman Catholic Parish in Severn, MD, where he actively participated in parish life. He was nurtured throughout life by his large and loving family and the Catholic community. He attended high school at Gonzaga College High School and college at Georgetown University before obtaining a Masters in Social Work from Catholic University, all in Washington, DC. Ron then graduated from Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health with a Masters in Public Health. Ronald was a member of Pi Gamma Mu, a National Social Science Honor Society.

During his post graduate work, he held many positions helping struggling youth and other disadvantaged populations in the universities he attended and in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. He cherished the time he spent as an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland School of Social work in the mid-1960s, particularly his work training young adults in the newly established Volunteers in Service for America (VISTA) anti-poverty program. When he moved on to serve as Assistant Director of the Department of Social Work at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, he was grateful to serve during a pivotal time when the focus was better integration of social services into medical education and patient care. As a Licensed Certified Social Worker, he later became the Director of Harbel Community Mental Health Center and then Man Alive Heroin Addiction Treatment Center before being appointed Chief for Drug Abuse Services for the Baltimore City Health Department. He was awarded the Mayor's Citation from Mayor William Donald Schaefer in 1979. Ron then provided psychotherapy services for a time in Annapolis before retiring in 1996.

Ronald was preceded in death by his wife Kate, Son In Law Major Robert O'Brien and many of his beloved relatives in the Loftus, Dixon and Jeffries Families. He is survived by six children: Garrie (Terrie) Boucher, Kathleen (Norma) Boucher, Kelly (Todd) Key, Therese Boucher, Tim (Susan) Boucher and Chris Boucher, eight grandchildren: Patrick, Christina, Cullen, Alexia, Emilyann, Benjamin, Joseph, and Isabel, and five great-grandchildren: Caitlyn, Evan, Bella Grace, Hudson and Olsen.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026 with a greeting at 11:30 a.m., Mass at Noon at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church at Charlestown, 711 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville, MD 21228, with a celebratory reception following.
