Ronald Eugene Larson, age 84, passed away on January 24, 2026, in Lakeville, Minnesota. Born on January 19, 1942, in Sheyenne, North Dakota, and growing up in Minot, Ron enjoyed a simple life focused on family, his beloved dogs, and the great outdoors.

Ron earned his undergraduate degree from Minot State University before going on to receive a Masters of Arts from Bemidji State University. He had a long, fulfilling career teaching 6th grade, math and physical education at Richfield Intermediate School. Known for his energetic presence and no-nonsense approach, Ron left a lasting impression on generations of students.

He proudly served in the Army Reserves, stationed in San Antonio, Texas. That same sense of duty and commitment carried through every aspect of his life—from his incredible work ethic to his selfless nature.

Ron is survived by his wife, Jesslyn Dell Larson (Geving), with whom he shared many decades of love and even more pets. Together they raised three children: Keri (Scott) Larson-Gulsvig, Jared (Tammy) Larson, and Trisha (Dan) McCabe. He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren—Brenon and Kippen Larson-Gulsvig; Corey (Kaci) Larson, Kaila (Hunter) Illsley; Jaxson, Kaia, and Camden McCabe—and a doting great-grandfather to Maya and Kendall Larson and Kinley Illsley.

He is also remembered by his siblings Karol (Phil) Lowe and Scott Larson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys Christina Larson (Kihlstrom) and Virgil Larson, as well as his brother Charles (Janice) Larson.

Ron's life was rich with hobbies that reflected his love for nature and physical activity. He spent countless hours hunting pheasants with friends, riding snowmobiles across frozen lakes, ice fishing up North, walking his dogs through open fields, or working outside at the family cabin in Breezy Point. In his younger years, he played every sport imaginable, from baseball to football to basketball, and everything in between.

A man of strong character with an unmistakable presence—loud yet kind-hearted—Ron was known for being unapologetically himself. With a generous heart hidden beneath a rugged exterior, he was always ready to lend a hand or share a laugh. Whether it was helping neighbors or simply showing up with an unexpected new pet from the local vet—he brought joy wherever he went.

His wardrobe was as consistent as his character: flannel shirts and jeans through the winter months gave way to cut-off shorts and bare-chested summers. He had an enduring fondness for Taco Bell, Culver's shrimp dinners, and flavored water affectionately dubbed "Grandpa water" by those who knew him best.

Perhaps nothing captures Ron's unique spirit more than the image of him spending nearly five decades of summers trying to rid Pelican Lake of lily pad weeds in front of his cabin. Using nothing but a rake tied to a rope—a testament to both his determination and drive to provide a good summer experience for his family and friends.

Ronald Eugene Larson was truly one of a kind—a friend to all who crossed his path. May his memory bring comfort and laughter to those who loved him.

To honor Ron's passion for outdoor sports, the family welcomes donations in lieu of flowers to the Pelican Lake Conservation Club (PLCC) in Pequot Lakes, MN.
