Ronald Michael Litt

1941 - 2026

Ronald Michael Litt passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at 85 years old. Ron was born on February 18, 1941 to parents Albert (Casey) and Ruth Litt in Flushing, NY. Ron attended New York University and graduated in 1963 with Bachelors Degrees in both Electrical Engineering and Math.

Upon his graduation, Ron was hired by NASA at Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland. He worked in the Telemetry Division and was responsible for building custom decoding systems for processing data downloaded from satellites. Ron often referred to himself as a “literal rocket scientist.”

Ron was commissioned into the U.S. Army as an officer serving as an instructor in the Signal School. He taught computer basics to senior Army officers and their foreign counterparts. He later worked for MITRE Corporation. In this capacity, he worked with classified information as a consultant to the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He had access to the Situation Room in the Pentagon during the war in Vietnam. He provided extensive guidance and studies on the use of computer systems including suggested improvements to existing systems.

Ron also worked in the computer system capacity with several other companies, notably General Electric and United Computing Systems, building large-scale time-sharing terminal systems. He eventually developed the world’s most powerful super computer (at the time). This was later used for commercial applications, first of its kind, and was used to aid in Exxon’s production research. This technology was also used in support of staff at NASA Johnson Space Flight Center in solving a problem with heat shield tiles on the space shuttle.

It’s no surprise that Ron ultimately pivoted this knowledge into his own technology consulting business running this alongside his own professional photography business. As an avid photographer, he won numerous awards at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo- notably winning Best in Show for one of his photos.

Ron subsequently evolved his career into the mortgage industry. He acted as Chief Information Officer at Allied Home Mortgage and President of Advantage Credit before serving in several other mortgage industry based positions. True to his background, he used his technology expertise to create efficiencies within his companies. He pioneered the use of technology within the industry leading to faster approvals and increased data integrity. Alongside Allied Mortgage, he built a fraud detection system which received an award for “New Product of the Year” from National Mortgage Monthly magazine.

Ron was a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and spent countless hours serving on the Breeders Greeters and Parade committees. In addition to his love of photography, he was a licensed radio amateur (Ham radio) and was President of the radio club at NYU during his educational years.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Albert (Casey) and Ruth Litt, as well as his brother-in-law, Charles (Chuck) Merten. He is survived by his wife Linda Litt of nearly 30 years and sister, Vicki (Litt) Merten. He is also survived by his 3 daughters, Apryl (Litt) Errico, Jennifer (Litt) Bergoine and husband Andrew, Kristin (Litt) Malejan and husband Brian. He is survived by his grandchildren Evayn Hall and husband Josh, Zachary Roper and wife Julie, Grady Bergoine, Garrett Bergoine, Elisabeth Malejan, and Luke Malejan. He was also a step-father and is survived by his step-children, Lynette Davis and husband Jared, and Rob Lantrip and wife Jessica. Ron was loved by many and is survived by a host of other family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2025 at Houston Trinity United Methodist Church at 2 PM officiated by Rev. Ron Hilton.
