Ronald Gene McCoy, age 86, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025, at the Richard Nau Hospice House in Longview, Washington. He was born on September 15, 1939, in Quapaw, Oklahoma.

Ron was a lifelong resident of the Longview/Kelso area and a proud graduate of Kelso High School, Class of 1958. In 1959, he married Carol Rand, though they eventually parted ways. Just three days after graduating high school, Ron began his career with the Cowlitz County Road Department, where he worked faithfully for 40 years. He retired as a supervisor, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, hard work, and respect from those who worked alongside him.

Ron later shared 45 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Cindi (Stiebritz) McCoy, building a life centered on family, horses, and lasting friendships. Together, Ron and Cindi enjoyed traveling the world, visiting many countries including China, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Tanzania, Kenya, and numerous European countries on river cruises, creating cherished memories along the way.

Ron's greatest passion was horses. He was a good hand with horses, especially known for his ability to handle and break young ones with patience and skill. He worked as a horseshoer for many years in the local area and was deeply involved in the rodeo community. Ron served on the Thunder Mountain Pro Rodeo Board for over 40 years, a testament to his lifelong commitment and love for the sport. Together, Ron and Cindi raised more than 50 quarter horses and sold many locally to friends, forming lifelong bonds through their shared love of horses.

Some of Ron's favorite times were spent camping and trail riding with his horses and friends. Those moments—outdoors, surrounded by good company and good horses—were where he felt most at home.

Above all else, Ron will be remembered for his kind nature and easygoing charm. Everyone who met Ron—especially the women—loved him. His warmth, humor, and genuine care for others left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Cindi McCoy; his daughters, Wendy Meredith (Steve) of Mesa, Arizona, and Tawni Broughton (Rylan) of Allyn, Washington; his sons, Scott McCoy and Jason Britzius (Shelley), both of Longview; daughter-in-law Rona Santiago McCoy of the Philippines; 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; his sisters, Dixie Wyllie (J) of Gresham, Oregon, Tracy Underberg (Kelly) of Gresham, Oregon, Diane Searing of Longview, and Donna Richards (Larry) of Eugene, Oregon; and his brother, Darwin McCoy (Sally) of Eugene, Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin McCoy; his parents, Chester and Hazel McCoy; his brothers, Jack and Kirby McCoy; his grandson, Daylon Beck; and his brother-in-law, Jan Searing.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 3, 2026, at the Kelso-Longview Elks.
