Ronald "Ron" Nuzzolo, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, businessman and legendary saltwater angler, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025, at the age of 77. Ron leaves behind a legacy defined by family, camaraderie, and a deep, enduring bond with the sea.
To his family and friends, Ron was the anchor; to his fellow fishermen, he was a man of the sea. From the charter boats in Sheepshead Bay and Montauk to his own boat "The Island Girl" and his angler buddies at Great Kills Yacht Club, Ron loved fishing and if he could fish 25 hours a day, he would! :)
While the ocean was his second home, his family was his first. Ron was a great and loving husband, sharing decades of adventure, laughter, and unwavering support with his beloved wife, Grace. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Ronald Jr., Anthony and Christopher. He instilled in them a strong work ethic, a gentle nature, and his own infectious sense of humor. He was also a treasured grandfather and uncle who delighted in teaching his grandkids how to tie a proper knot and feel the tug of their first keeper.
Ron's warmth, generosity, and genuine kindness touched everyone he met, whether on the dock, out at sea, or at home. Born in 1948 in Dongan Hills to Pellegrino and Domenica Nuzzolo, he attended St. Ann's Elementary School and McKee High School. He met the love of his life Grace Lonano from Palermo, Sicily while in high school, they were married at St. Ann's Church in 1968. Ronald joined the U.S. Navy in 1968 and was stationed in Virginia and served aboard the USS Raleigh, following in his father's footsteps. He worked for the NYC Transit Authority for 32 years as an Electrical Signal Maintainer, retiring in 2004. He also established the very successful South Shore Sign Company in 1983, that is still presently operated by his sons. Ron was extremely handy and was always there for family and friends who needed a helping hand. Whether it was installing an alarm, a sign, electrical work or hanging wallpaper, he never refused to help out.
He was one of a kind, always wearing a smile. He was also known for his sense of humor and ability to tell a great story at family parties and Holiday gatherings.
He is survived by Grace, his wife of 57 years, his children, Ron Jr. (Danielle), Anthony (Vanessa) and Christopher (Nicole), his five grandchildren Ronald III, Nicolette, Christopher Jr., Desmond and Isabella and his four brothers, Carmine (Elaine), Richard (Barbara), Steven (Christina) and Joseph along with one sister Laura Mooney (Charles).
