Ronald (Ron) Jay Timmermans, a skilled architect, accomplished aviator, and cherished family man, passed away suddenly on February 11, 2026, in Murchison, Texas. Born on July 18, 1950, in Canton, South Dakota, Ron lived a life marked by dedication to his craft, his faith, and his loved ones.

Ron earned his architectural degree from Iowa State University in 1972 and embarked on a distinguished career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Over four decades of service as an architect and project manager, he contributed significantly to projects that left a lasting impact. His professional achievements extended beyond architecture into aviation—a passion that defined much of his later life.

A skilled pilot and instructor, Ron was recognized as the 2021 Certificated Flight Instructor of the Year and was inducted into the Flight Instructor Hall of Fame in 2022. In 2023, he received the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award—the Federal Aviation Administration's highest honor for pilots—celebrating his exemplary contributions to aviation safety and education. From 1998 until his passing in 2026, Ron served as a Beechcraft Bonanza pilot instructor, sharing his expertise with countless students and colleagues across the country.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ron was deeply committed to serving others through his faith. As a representative of Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church in East Orlando, he used his architectural skills to help design the Samaritan Resource Center (SRC), a vital community resource for those in need. Ron twice served as the leader of the Call Committee, faithfully guiding the congregation through the process of seeking and calling new pastors. He also mentored several church youths, was involved with the food ministry and community outreach programs and believed in the importance of prayer and bible study groups.

Ron’s legacy is carried forward by his loving family: daughter Heather Timmermans; son Aaron Timmermans; stepson Brian Zimmer and his wife Sandra; stepdaughter Tami Nichols and her husband Mark; stepdaughter Nichole Adrian and her husband Cleetus; fourteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He will also be remembered fondly by fellow church members and friends within the aviation community who admired him for his kindness, dedication, and unwavering spirit.

Ron shared an extraordinary bond with his beloved wife Barbara (Zimmer) Timmermans. Their lives were intertwined not only by love but also by their shared commitment to family and faith. Tragically passing on the same day as Ron, Barbara’s memory will forever remain linked with his in the hearts of those who knew them.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church in honor of Ron’s memory. Contributions can be made online at www.spiritofjoy.org by selecting the "Give" option and choosing a fund to support.

Ronald Jay Timmermans will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. May his memory inspire comfort and gratitude among those who had the privilege of knowing him. A Memorial Service will be held on April 18, 2026, from 01:00 PM to 03:00 PM at Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church 1801 Rouse Rd. Pre-memorial visitation with family and friends begins at 1:00 p.m. with the service beginning at 1:30 p.m.
