Mrs. Rosalie Ann "Rose" King (née Kissinger) passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, in Gloucester, Virginia. Born on February 22, 1938, in Washington, D.C., she lived a life shaped by resilience, devotion to family, and a love for the simple joys of country living.
Rosalie graduated from Surrattsville High School in Clinton, Maryland, and went on to build a dedicated career. She worked for over 15 years at Pantry Pride—formerly Food Fair—where her reliability and commitment were well recognized. Later, she served as a receptionist at Dr. Palmer’s practice in Montross, Virginia, where her warm presence left a lasting impression on both colleagues and patients.
She shared 42 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Mike King of Warsaw, Virginia. She was previously married to Chris Sondberg of Nags Head, North Carolina, for 15 years. Rosalie is lovingly remembered by her four children: Kathleen A. Cooke of Annapolis, Maryland; Michael C. Sondberg (Jan) of Cambridge, Maryland; Scott S. Sondberg (Suzanne) of Gaithersburg; and John Terry Sondberg of Davidsonville, Maryland.
She is also remembered by her sisters Frances Rocawich of Millersville, Maryland, and Toni Day of Tall Timbers, Maryland; nine grandchildren: Kyle Cooke, Jennafer Sondberg, Kristen Keyes, Hunter K. Sondberg (deceased August 2020), Tyler Sondberg, Elizabeth Migliore, Alicia Sondberg, Hannah Lyles, and Eric Sondberg; eight great-grandchildren: Louis V. Keyes; Liam R., Aiden, and Emma Cooke; Zoe; Kristian; Jaxon; and Wren Sondberg; and eight nieces and nephews.
Rosalie was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Agnes Kissinger, her brother, Charles (Butch) Kissinger and her grandson Hunter K. Sondberg.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Virginia Health Hospice, 1103 William Styron Square S, Newport News, VA 23608. A celebration of life will be held at a later date with immediate family.
