Rose Caryn Levine, originally of Silver Spring, MD and Washington, D.C., passed away peacefully following cancer surgery in Palo Alto, CA. She was born on November 13, 1958 to Edith and Sidney Levine in Washington, D.C. She graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in 1976 and the University of Maryland in 1980.
Rose was a talented painter and writer. She loved books and for many years worked at the Politics and Prose Bookstore in Washington, D.C.
She struggled with Parkinson's disease and Multiple Sclerosis for many years, yet kept a brave front and always had time for her many friends. She loved the TV show Jeopardy and word games in general. She participated in a regular meditation practice. Yet she was very proud of her Jewish heritage and kept to the traditional holiday celebrations.
Rose was a dedicated mother, sister and cousin. To her family she was known for her love, compassion and generosity. She had a special place in her heart for those less fortunate.
She is survived by her life partner Ron Bedry of Pacific Grove, her son Jay V. Carter, brother Ross H. Levine, sister-in-law Bernadette and cousins Mark and Rich Altschuler, Bonnie Altschuler Natt, Joyce Goldman Bishop, and Robert and Harriet Goldman. She was preceded in death by her husband Michael Carter and parents Edith and Sidney Levine.

At the Rose's request, there will be no public funeral service. A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date.
