Rose Delle Levno Obituary
Rose Delle Levno (also known as Rosemary, Miss Rose, RD, or Rosebeth amongst other nicknames), a beloved mother, grandmother, teacher, friend and longtime member of the Fairbanks community, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026, at the age of 94. She was until recently the oldest surviving sibling (of 7!) of her family and lived a rich, fulfilling life marked by dedication to education, family, friends and many hobbies including writing and music.
Born in Sidney, Montana, Rose was the oldest child of Stanley and Rose Arvys (Wenstrom) Levno. She grew up mostly in Sidney, with earlier forays elsewhere as the family moved. After attending Colorado College, Rose eventually pursued her passion for teaching by attending Arizona State University in Phoenix, Arizona where she earned a degree in Education in 1966 and later English as a Second Language (ESL). She pursued and gained a master's degree in education with endorsements for principal and special education which she received from Northern Arizona University in 1985.
Rose devoted over 30 years to education in many areas including Colorado, Alaska and Arizona throughout the years. She began her career teaching in Maricopa Arizona in 1966, and continued to move to various places, mostly in Arizona and Alaska, finally retiring from the Lower Kuskokwim School District in 1996. Her teaching touched countless lives, inspiring generations of students.
In the early 1950s Rose married Vernon Twombly. In the 1960's Rose married James Struckmeyer. In the early 1970s Rose married Adam Chythlook. From these unions she had 7 children, 6 of whom currently survive her: Timothy Twombly, Gregory Twombly, Benjamin Twombly, Leon Struckmeyer Chythlook, John Chythlook, and Franklin Chythlook. Her only daughter, Gloria Struckmeyer Chythlook, predeceased her.
She is survived by her brothers Arley Levno (Patricia), John Charles Levno (Celinda Anne, deceased), and Thomas Levno (Lisa). She was predeceased by her parents, and brothers Gene (Dolores), Glen (Joan), and Paul (formerly married to Rochelle, also deceased). She is survived by a few special friends, including Katie Nilsson, Pat Abney, and Doug Frank. Given her age and such a large family, there are many that have passed before her, including many precious family and friends, and a few old friends and many family who remain.
Always known for her fierce independent spirit, Rose found late joy in simple things, such as playing piano with the Pioneer Home staff and reading and small hobbies. She looked forward to visits from her family and friends. Rose especially enjoyed the Pioneer Home Saturday special occasions that involved sweets, and holidays.
Rose's life was a testament to resilience and hard work, along with some of that independent streak. She will be remembered as a devoted educator and family matriarch who brought stories with her wherever she went.
Her family would like to thank all the caregivers who took excellent care of her while she lived at the Pioneer Home.
Celebration of life may be announced at a later date.
