Rose Marie Trotter began her life's journey on March 4, 1954. She was born in Pontiac, Michigan, to Rosie Lee Penny and the late George Henry Penny. Rose Marie was one of six siblings, two of whom - Gregory A. Penny and Minister George H. Penny Jr. - preceded her in death.

Rose Marie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the tender age of seven. She began her Christian journey while attending Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where she was water baptized. Over the years, Rose Marie held memberships at Galilean Baptist Church, Welcome Missionary Baptist Church, Hartford Memorial Baptist Church, and Word of Faith International Christian Center. She joyfully made her final church membership with Faith Tabernacle Church in Highland Park, Michigan.

Rose Marie was a graduate of Pontiac Central High School. She continued her education at Michigan State University and Oakland University, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology along with a teaching certificate. She went on to receive her Master's degree in Educational Leadership from Wayne State University.

Rose Marie was an educator who devoted more than three decades to the Detroit Public Schools Community District. She began her career as a middle school and high school science teacher. She enjoyed teaching biology and participating in science fairs with her students for many years. Rose Marie ended her teaching career to become a district science supervisor for DPS, and eventually became an assistant principal. She later followed her ultimate dream and opened a charter school, Crescent Academy, where she held the position of school principal and administrator. Rose Marie made a lasting impact through her leadership, mentorship, and commitment to academic excellence.

Rose Marie had many interests. As a child, she loved science and nature. This includes her love for animals, especially cats. This curiosity led to a lifelong career in the field of science. She was also an avid gardener. During the spring and summer months, she enjoyed planting flowers and tending to her vegetable garden. Rose Marie was known as the family baker. She enjoyed baking delicious breads and rolls, cakes, pies, and cookies. Rose Marie also loved music. She enjoyed singing and listening to gospel hymns and attending jazz concerts with her husband. She also played the flute throughout her high-school years and beyond. Rose Marie enjoyed taking trips with her family and researching family ancestry, which she presented at family reunions over the past few years.

Rose Marie leaves to cherish her memory: Her devoted husband of forty-one years, Willie Trotter; her adoring children, Phillip and Faith; her mother, Rosie Lee Penny; and three sisters, Eleanor, Valerie, Kathy (Cliff); and brothers-in-love, Robert, Darren, and Terry (Deborah), and a host of nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, former colleagues, and wonderful friends.
