Ross Albert Grahn, 100, of Colorado Springs, CO, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026.
Born in Toronto, Canada, Ross moved to the United States to join the Navy during World War II. He served with distinction for three years as a Seaman First Class and coxswain's mate aboard LSTs that delivered tanks to the beaches of Normandy. His service during one of history's most pivotal moments was a source of pride and honor throughout his life.
After the war, Ross embarked on a career that showcased his craftsmanship and dedication. He worked at Allison making cutting wheels and later applied his skills at several sign shops, where he took great pride in pointing out his contributions to various projects. Beyond his professional endeavors, Ross found joy in working with his hands. He loved gardening, building intricate stone paths, tending to vegetable and rose gardens, and lending a helping hand to neighbors as a skilled handyman.
Ross was a lifetime member of the Stratford VFW, where he enjoyed camaraderie through joking, laughing, and sharing stories. His legacy is preserved at the Stratford Veterans Museum in both photo and video form—a testament to his vibrant personality and enduring impact on those who knew him.
Ross was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathryn Kranyak Grahn, and his son, Gary Grahn. He is survived by his daughters, Rochelle Kibble and Robin Rainville (Alan); grandchildren Tracy Zayasbazan, Lorri Hutchings, Gary Grahn Jr., and Jason Grahn; as well as great-grandchildren Carmen Zayasbazan, Samantha Gedeon, Dylan Zayasbazan, Lucia Grahn, Betty Grahn, and Thomas Grahn.
A memorial service will be held on May 12, 2027, at Pikes Peak Veterans Cemetery in Colorado Springs, CO.
