Roxanne began her career as a registered nurse specializing in critical care. Her work at Louisville Methodist Hospital and later at Clark County Hospital in Jeffersonville, Indiana, reflected her unwavering commitment to providing compassionate and skilled care to patients in intensive care units. Over the years, she became known for her professionalism and empathy—qualities that left a lasting impact on those she cared for and worked alongside.

Roxanne also shared a close relationship with her sister, Diane Cullen Merrifield—a bond that remained strong through the years. She is also survived by her nephews Michael and Patrick Merrifield.

Roxanne was married to Dr. Aaron Edward Lucas. They enjoyed over thirty year together, living in the historic St. James Court neighborhood of Louisville, Ky. and helping run the neighborhood's nationally recognized art show for 15 years. In retirement they moved to Punta Gorda Fl. and she immersed herself in her artistic endeavors. Their marriage was marked by Love, mutual respect and companionship.

She was previously married to Vincent Nelson for 23 years.

In addition to her professional life, Roxanne was a gifted fiber artist who found joy in knitting, spinning, and weaving. Her artistic creations were not only expressions of beauty but also reflections of the care and attention she brought to all aspects of her life. Her culinary skills were exceptional, winning many blue ribbons at the Kentucky State Fair. Theater held a special place in her heart as well; it was a lifelong passion that enriched her world and brought joy to those around her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Cullen and Doris Bogle Cullen.
