Roy Nils Bergmann, a man of quiet exuberance, profound creativity, and a lifelong dedication to doing things well, passed away at home in San Francisco surrounded by the love of his family.
Roy grew up in New York, a city that helped shape his early drive and his appreciation for art and culture. He was creative in the worlds of music, art, design, finance, poetry and style.

He attended Yorktown Heights high school where he excelled with his saxophone playing and enjoyed the satisfaction of working on and understanding the mechanics of cars in the shop. He studied at Northwestern University, where he joined the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and graduated with a bachelor's degree in philosophy. During this time he spent a semester at Pratt Institute exploring his love of design. After graduation he served as an officer in the United States Navy on the USS Barney. During his time in the Navy he sailed across Europe, sparking a love of travel, sailing, and the ocean. He was later drafted and sent to Vietnam.

After returning from Vietnam, he furthered his education and received his master’s degree in business at University of Southern California, transitioning to an exciting career of investment banking with the Bank of America. He traveled to many countries in Asia, the Middle East and Europe for work, and lived in London for three years. Roy had two children from his first marriage, Erik and Hillary, whom he loved unconditionally. Later in life Roy married Janie – a fellow traveler, connoisseur of art and culture, and the love of his life – and welcomed stepdaughter Amy. Roy and Janie shared many joyful years together, spending time on his yacht “The Peaceful Warrior”, traveling and experiencing the beauty the world had to offer. He was particularly fond of their time spent in England, France, and Italy, a favorite being Lake Como.

Roy‘s true legacy was defined by his courage to pivot towards his passions, seeking a deeper connection between the mind and body. He left the financial world to found the Mindful Body yoga, massage, and acupuncture studio in 1993. Roy fostered a lasting community and became a mentor known for drawing out the best in those around him. Roy was a man of movement, practicing and teaching yoga, running, dancing and swimming in the bay at the Dolphin Club (a long standing polar bear!) He greatly appreciated the precision and design of beautiful cars. He was a risk taker with far reaching impact, yet he maintained a delightful, quiet warmth. He was a man who truly listened and was deeply in tune with the emotional connections and hidden currents that shaped the experiences of those around him.

Roy is survived by his beloved wife, Janie, his children and their partners, Hillary, (Brett), Amy, (Robert), and Erik, as well as a wide circle of loving family and friends. They are blessed to have been touched by his warm embrace and insightful mind. He leaves a legacy of creativity and mentorship - an enduring call to keep seeking wisdom, and to never stop searching for a deeper understanding of the world.
