Roy Eugene Hunley (September 3, 1941 - October 6, 2025)
Roy Eugene Hunley, 84, of Corbin, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025, to be with his Lord. A caring and empathetic man, he loved his family dearly and valued their time together, sharing stories and jokes during get-togethers.
Born in Corbin in 1941, Roy was the son of the late Robert Hunley and the late Ethelene Sweeton Archey. He was affectionately known as "Papa Roy" or "Papa."
Roy had a deep love for fishing and greatly enjoyed his time on the water with family. He was a passionate sports fan, with his loyalties lying with the Chicago Bulls, Chicago Bears, and Tennessee Titans. He enjoyed watching games and engaging in good-natured "smack talk" about opposing teams. Roy also cherished his three "chiweenies"—LadyBug, Ghost, and Walter—often with all three piled on his lap in his favorite rocking chair.
For years, Roy was a traveling entrepreneur in the fairs and festivals circuit, working alongside his late wife, Kathy. They traveled across Michigan, Tennessee, and other states. He would often bring his children and grandchildren gifts from their business, including Kathy's handmade dreamcatchers, sunglasses, and the fun "snap-n-pops." In his later years, he enjoyed coin-collecting as a hobby.
Roy was preceded in death by his loving wife, Kathleen Joy Hunley; his parents, Robert Hunley and Ethelene (Sweeton) Archey; his stepfather, Hugh Archey; his sister, Jo Ann Miller; and his son-in-law, Jerry "Rabbit" Watkins, Jr.
He is survived by his sisters, Hughlene (Donny) Coulson, Connie Archey, and Vickey (Rick) Annable; his brother-in-law, Jerry Miller; and his children and grandchildren: Richard & Stephanie Hunley (Amber, Cheyenne); Jacqueline & Eric Schewe (Chasity, Jennifer, Jason, Kyle & Stephanie); Roy & Ginger Archey (Christopher, Brandon, Richard, Aaron, Patrick, Roy Jr., John); Charlotte Watkins (Natasha, Jerry III, Monika, Maha); and Vickey Hunley (Robert, Michael, Joshua, Joseph, Alycia, Albert). He is also survived by multiple great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Following his cremation, a celebration of life will be held in his memory. Roy was a funny, caring, and sweet man who will be greatly missed by all who had the opportunity to know him. Rest in peace, Papa Roy.
