Roy Edward Schneider passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on October 8, 1934, in Wilmette, Illinois, Roy lived a long and meaningful life marked by kindness, laughter, generosity, and a deep love for the people around him.
Roy was the son of Anna and Edward Schneider and was preceded in death by his 15 brothers and sisters. He was a proud Army veteran and dedicated more than 40 years of his professional life to Baxter Labs. After retiring, he joined the Moose Lodge, where he found friendship and camaraderie among fellow members.
Roy was compassionate, loyal and brave. He was committed to his family and had an enormous heart. He delighted in joining relatives for coffee almost every Saturday morning, chatting about the week's activities and sharing stories about his life. He enjoyed creating colorful floral arrangements, hunting for the best bargains at Big Lots and the Dollar Store, and planting roses for his neighbors to enjoy at the apartment building they shared. One of his favorite ongoing battles, however, was waging war against the squirrels who dared invade his garden. He took pride in making his space feel special—often enhanced with wood-grain contact paper—and could happily spend hours tinkering with cuckoo clocks.
A gifted storyteller with an extraordinary memory, Roy could vividly recall moments from his childhood, his years in the Army, and his many travel adventures, sharing them with warmth, humor, and remarkable detail. Above all else, Roy was devoted to his family. His greatest pride was being an uncle, and he cherished his nieces and nephews deeply.
Roy is survived by many loving nieces and nephews, along with neighbors and friends who were fortunate to know him. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, quick wit, and generous heart. His legacy of love, humor, and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
